There’s no question that Matt Law is one of the very top names when it comes to Chelsea news. The Telegraph’s man covering the Blues is well connected at the club and has genuine inside knowledge, unlike many of the fakers out there.

We haven’t heard from him in a while, so we were pleased to see him drop a transfer window roundup which took a deeper look into what the Blues’ plans are for this month.

Firstly he confirms the interest in Marc Guehi which we’ve seen in other places. But he also confirms what we suspected – it will be expensive and a difficult move to do, given Guehi’s club Crystal Palace are battling relegation and don’t want to lose such a key player at this stage.

Then there’s the whole Trevoh Chalobah entanglement. The Chelsea defender is on loan at Palace. Do we recall him? Or do we sell him to them so that they’re more willing to sell us Guehi? It could go either way.

Any moves will need sales – and there are plenty which could happen

Any move to sign Guehi would come from sales – Law says that there’s “high profile” interest from Germany in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who only signed in the summer. Assuming Bayern Munich aren’t interested, that leaves maybe Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, maybe Frankfurt or Stuttgart as the “high profile” teams who might be interested.

Other potential sales include Axel Disasi who isn’t fancied by Maresca, and Ben Chilwell is available for loan.

But above all, the message from Law is that even injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile won’t “force them into panic buying” this month. The club are just “ready to move if the right opportunity arises.”

That sounds like the right move to us.
