Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez says that he is “not worried” despite his lack of goals.
Martinez spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, ahead of tomorrow’s Supercoppa Italiana semifinal. He also said that it doesn’t make a difference to him whether he starts alongside Mehdi Taremi or Joaquin Correa.
Inter captain Martinez has been struggling for goals in recent weeks.
The Argentine scored against Cagliari in Serie A last weekend. The hope was certainly that that would signal the end of his goal drought.
But that’s not really proven to be the case.
Instead, Martinez passed up good opportunities to build on that strike in Inter’s Supercoppa semifinal win over Atalanta.
Now, Inter head to the final of the Supercoppa against city rivals AC Milan.
Martinez has often proven to be Inter’s hero in the Supercoppa. He scored the winner against Napoli in last season’s final, while he was on the scoresheet against the Rossoneri two years ago.
Therefore, the Argentine could be hoping that this next final inspires him once again.
“We’re all hoping that Inter win in 2025,” Martinez said. “That’s the only thing that interests me.”
“Then, obviously when the goals aren’t coming, everyone gets agitated,” he went on.
“But not me,” Martinez said with a laugh.
“But I’m calm,” the Inter captain insisted. “Because Inter are winning matches.”
“Tomorrow we have another great opportunity to add another trophy to the cabinet,” Martinez noted.
Meanwhile, Martinez will be without his usual strike partner Marcus Thuram tomorrow. Reportedly either Mehdi Taremi or Joaquin Correa instead start.
However, Martinez says that there’s “no difference” to him which it ends up being.
“I’m very happy to have teammates like Mehdi, Correa, and Arna,” he said.
“They’re three great players. Even if they don’t play that often, they give us a hand, and raise the level in training.”
“I’ll be happy whoever I play with,” Martinez insisted.
