Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels it’s a “great sign” that Marko Arnautovic and Kristjan Asllani scored in starts against Udinese.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, after his team cruised to a 2-0 victory in the Coppa Italia round of sixteen with goals from the two fringe players.
Inter coach Inzaghi rotated his team very heavily this evening in the Coppa Italia.
There were just two players remaining in the starting eleven from the team that started against Lazio earlier in the week.
Therefore, there were chances for some players who rarely start.
Among these were striker Arnautovic, and midfielder Asllani.
And both of the pair got on the scoresheet.
Striker Arnautovic scored Inter’s opener. The Austrian was rewarded for a high-energy display leading the line with his second goal of the season.
Meanwhile, Asllani’s goal was a spectacular one. The former Empoli midfielder found the back of the net straight from a corner.
After the match, Inter coach Inzaghi called the goals from Arnautovic and Asllani “a great sign.”
“It was a great match,” he continued.
“When I say that I have 25 starters, I mean it.”
“I have to make decisions with who starts,” Inzaghi said. “For the good of Inter.”
“But today we played a serious match. We had everything to lose, but we played well.”
“We’ve said from the start that we know how tough things are going to be,” Inzaghi said.
“We know there are a lot of difficulties. But I’m fortunate to have a great group, we have to keep going like this.”
“In four day we play again,” Inzaghi said. “Then again on the 28th, and then the Supercoppa.”
“But we’ve been giving great signs.”
“We’re improving every day,” Inzaghi went on.
“On Monday we won in a rout, but we still analyzed it because there were things we could have done better.”
“Today we were up against a strong opponent. I made eight changes to the team.”
“But it didn’t show,” Inzaghi noted.
“Udinese had a strong midfield, which we’ve already come up against in the league. But the team stayed focused, and we’re satisfied.”
And of the Serie A title race, Inzaghi said that “We’re flying, and so are the other teams.”
“It’s an open title race. Not like the last couple seasons, because the teams have strengthened.”
“I hope that I can have everyone available soon,” Inzaghi added.
“We’ve had some problems at the back because Pavard and Acerbi have been out for a month. I asked Bastoni and Bisseck to sacrifice for the team.”
