Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that wingback Denzel Dumfries “has goals in his blood” after the Dutchman’s decisive efforts against Atalanta.
Inzaghi spoke to Radio TV Serie A, via FCInterNews, after the 2-0 Supercoppa Italiana semifinal victory. He also updated on the condition of striker Marcus Thuram.
Dumfries has always had a knack for scoring from the wingback position.
The former PSV wingback has managed to do so quite frequently and prolifically for both Inter and the Dutch national team.
Dumfries is a player who has a certain knack for arriving in the penalty area at the right time.
And when he gets into goalscoring positions, Dumfries can capitalize on them. Especially, as an astute header of the ball. He is also very capable of placing his shots well.
Yesterday, Dumfries starred with a bicycle kick and then a blistering first-time strike to power Inter to victory in the Supercoppa semifinal against Atalanta.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi spoke after yesterday’s match. He admitted that Dumfries “is not used to scoring braces.”
“But goals are in his blood,” the Nerazzurri coach noted.
“He’s score a lot of them, between Inter and Holland.”
Inzaghi went on that “On the first one, he did very well to kick it overhead to make it 1-0, and then the second was a Eurogol.”
“He helped us to reach our objective,” Inzaghi added. “Getting to the final.”
Meanwhile, the Inter coach also spoke about the condition of striker Marcus Thuram. The striker came off at halftime in yesterday’s match.
“He had a minor problem,” Inzaghi said of the Frenchman. “And he wasn’t moving freely.”
“He tested it out at halftime, but he didn’t feel confident,” said the Inter coach. “So we made the substitution.”
“But Taremi came on and did very well,” he added.
Of the win over Atalanta, Inzaghi said that “We gave a great performance.”
“I gave my congratulations to the guys,” he added.
“We started strong,” the Inter coach said.
“We’d have deserved to have been ahead in the first half already, against a top team.”
“We started both halves off perfectly. And then we found the two goals through Dumfries.”
“We were lacking the third goal,” Inzaghi noted.
In conclusion, Inzaghi stated “But in the end we deservedly reached the final, which we care about a lot.”
