At the moment, Acerbi is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

There was no fanfare for the Italian international’s most recent extension.

However, the 36-year-old is on the Nerazzurri’s books until the end of next season.

It is not overly surprising that Inter would want Acerbi around for that long. Even in spite of his advancing age.

Acerbi is a reliable and experienced part of the Nerazzurri’s squad.

And with the Club World Cup on the way, it is natural for Inter to want to keep a strong and cohesive squad together.

This has not been an easy season for Acerbi, however.

When the former Lazio and Sassuolo defender has gotten out on the pitch, the standard of his performances has remained high.

However, availability has become more and more of an issue for Acerbi.

In the Italian international’s first season at Inter, he did not miss a match with injury.

Last campaign, on the other hand, there were a couple notable spells on the sidelines.

And already this season, the injury troubles are starting to pile up for Acerbi.

Acerbi missed a good chunk of the summer after recovering from groin surgery.

Then, after playing for much of the first few weeks of the campaign, Acerbi picked up a thigh strain in October.

And since then, Acerbi has largely been out. He has had two separate thigh strains.

The recovery periods are really starting to drag on for Acerbi. His advancing age could finally be starting to show.

And Inter have an option to unilaterally terminate Acerbi’s contract at the end of June 2025.

According to the Gazzetta, the 36-year-old’s persistent injuries could push them to do just that.
