Inter Milan and Italy wingback Matteo Darmian feels that his goal for Man United against Crystal Palace in 2016 is his “most beautiful.”
The 34-year-old named the long-range volley as the pick of his personal goals in an interview with Cronache di Spogliatoio.
Darmian is now entering the latter stages of what has been a long and successful career.
The Italian international has featured for several teams in Serie A. The longest spell he has had with any one club has been with Inter.
Darmian is now in his fifth season with the Nerazzurri. He has played a big role in two Serie A title triumphs, as well as several domestic cup wins.
Moreover, Darmian started every match that Inter played on the way to the Champions League final in the 2022-23 campaign.
This has certainly been the most trophy-laden period in Darmian’s career.
Darmian also had four seasons in the Premier League with Manchester United.
However, these four years never quite met expectations. Darmian joined the Red Devils with a very positive reputation after his time at Torino in particular.
But the Italian never quite showed his best form at Old Trafford. And for United as a whole it was not an historically positive period.
There were highlights for Darmian in a Manchester United shirt, however.
One of these came towards the end of his first season in the Premier League.
Darmian scored United’s second goal in a 2-0 league win over Crystal Palace.
It was a highly impressive control and volley from the now-Inter wingback.
Asked what his “most beautiful” goal in his career to date was, Darmian replied that “On an aesthetic level, it was the one for Manchester United.”
“The one against Palace,” he confirmed.
Darmian has also scored several important goals for Inter. He was on the scoresheet in 1-0 Serie A wins against the likes of Hellas Verona and Cagliari on the way to the Serie A title in the 2020-21 season.
Meanwhile, Darmian also had an impressive long-range strike against Atalanta in a 1-0 Coppa Italia win during the 2022-23 season.
