Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella is ready to face the team who launched his career in the form of Como this evening.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Barella is now a player right at the top of the Italian game.
The 27-year-old is a talismanic midfielder for an Inter team who have become a dominant force in Serie A, and credible contenders for the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Barella is one of Italy’s key players. He started throughout the Azzurri’s EURO 2020 triumph, and has become even more important since.
Barella had to start somewhere, though.
For many Serie A fans, the first memories of the Italian international will have come during his time at Cagliari.
Playing in his native Sardinia, Barella grew into one of the most exciting prospects in Serie A with a string of displays that earned him transfer interest throughout Europe before Inter eventually spent big to bring him in.
But before he really got a chance at his boyhood club, Barella needed a launching pad.
And that proved to be Como.
In 2016, Cagliari sent Barella out on loan to the Lariani.
And Barella got sixteen appearances for the Lombard club in Serie B.
Still a teenager at the time, senior playing time was vital for Barella. He took advantage of it and never looked back.
Now, Como are finally back in Serie A. And they will be up against a Barella who’s very different from the youngster who got a chance to shine there nearly a decade ago.
