Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi outlined his immediate goals ahead of Thursday’s Supercoppa Italiana encounter against Atalanta.
During his pre-match chat with Sportmediaset via FCInterNews, the Scudetto-winning manager labeled tomorrow’s contest as the ‘most important game.’
History beckons for the Nerazzurri as they head to Riyadh to meet La Dea in the Super Cup semi-finals.
Indeed, the reigning Serie A champions could become the first team to win this trophy four times in a row.
But they must overcome Atalanta first.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are not in a forgiving mood.
They’ve pieced together a scintillating 13-game unbeaten streak against fellow Italian opposition.
However, they’ve notoriously struggled against Inter, as evidenced by a 13-match winless run against Inzaghi’s side.
Furthermore, Simone Inzaghi has overseen six consecutive wins against the Bergamo outfit, including a 4-0 rout in August.
Inter accumulated a jaw-dropping 19 goals during that six-fixture sequence, highlighting how confident they are in this match-up.
“It will be an intense match. We know Atalanta well. Previous results don’t count on the pitch,” Inzaghi claimed.
“We met at the start when the market was still open, and both teams have had excellent campaigns in both the league and Champions League.
“It will be an even game. They are a team in constant growth, now part of the elite of football.
“For them, the greatest achievement is no longer being a surprise but a top team.”
Inzaghi doesn’t only want to defend the Super Cup crown but win every trophy he can.
“We will try to be competitive in all competitions,” he said.
“Right now, clearly the most important one is the Super Cup, which starts tomorrow.
“There are two matches to be played in a few days, so the difficulty of winning this trophy has increased even more since last year.”
Asked whether his Inter is back, he replied: “Definitely.
“We’ve had some draws like the others, we know the challenges of Serie A.
“Right now, we’re in a good moment, and we need to keep going.”
