Inter Milan owners Oaktree Capital are working to develop commercial ties in Saudi Arabia as the Nerazzurri play in the Supercoppa Italiana.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Inter owners see opportunities to branch out in the Middle East.
Inter are playing in the Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan tomorrow.
The match will take place in Saudi Arabia. This is the third season running in which the Supercoppa takes place in the gulf state.
That is an opportunity for the big Italian teams to “advertise” themselves to new potential fans.
For Inter owners Oaktree Capital, there is a feeling that the Middle East contains untapped commercial potential.
Currently, the Serie A team with the largest fanbase in Saudi Arabia is Milan. 19% of Saudi fans of Serie A support the Rossoneri.
But Oaktree are working tom improve Inter’s standing.
As the Gazzetta notes, the Inter owners have made their club the first Italian team to obtain a commercial license with MISA.
Moreover, the Nerazzurri have a partnership with the Saudi Ministry of Investment.
Therefore, Oaktree are using the Supercoppa as an opportunity to deepen this connection.
