Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta says it’s “normal to see what’s out there” as far as links to Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Marotta spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, ahead of this evening’s match against Fiorentina. He also said that Inter are aware they’re favourites for the Serie A title.
In the last couple days, Inter have been at the centre of some very surprising transfer rumours concerning high profile players.
First, Spanish outlet Marca claimed that Inter are keen on signing midfielder Marco Verratti.
The 32-year-old is currently at Qatari club Al-Arabi. He signed from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023.
Next up, there were rumours that Inter are keeping tabs on another Italian international in the form of Gianluigi Donnarrumma.
Like Verratti, Donnarumma was a key part of the Italy team that won EURO 2020. He was also Verratti’s teammates for two seasons at PSG, although unlike Verratti he is still in the French capital.
But reports indicate that the former AC Milan keeper is not entirely happy at PSG.
And Inter could see Donnarumma as a solution to replace Yann Sommer in the long term.
Inter President Marotta was asked about the links with Veratti and Donnarumma.
“It’s now customary that top clubs are linked with great players who could leave at the end of the season,” he said.
“But at the moment our squad is competitive. It meets our objectives and we have no worries about filling holes in it.”
“However it’s normal that in our operations, particularly [Sporting Directors] Ausilio and Baccin, we see what’s out there as far as all possible ideas on the market that may work within our model.”
“But to say that at this point we’re already negotiating… Definitely not.”
Meanwhile, Marotta also gave his thoughts on Inter’s status as favourites for the Serie A title.
“I’m representing a great club,” he said. “And we’re the reigning champions.”
“So it’s normal that we’re the favourites.”
“We’re aware that we’re champions,” said Marotta. “But we also have tough rivals like Napoli, who deserve to be top of the table.”
“There are several teams who can aspire to win the title,” the Inter President insisted.
“We’ll try to win it though. Or at least to fight for it until the end.”
