Inter Milan saw their lack of midfield depth exposed in yesterday evening’s Serie A draw against Bologna.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They criticize the performances of Kristjan Asllani and Piotr Zielinski.
Yesterday, Inter faced their second successive Serie A match without Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan are certainly two of Inter’s key starters in Serie A.
However, it was up to the “second string” to try and win the midfield battle for the Nerazzurri yesterday.
Against Venezia on the weekend, Kristjan Asllani and Piotr Zielinski proved that they are capable of slotting right in and keeping the midfield together.
But yesterday against Bologna it was a very different story.
Albanian international Asllani showed his inexperience after a mature-looking performance against Venezia.
And Zielinski seemed a bit too casual. There were a few moments of real quality, but not the kind of tireless performance Inter needed to fend off a high-pressing Bologna side.
The Nerazzurri midfield as a whole was lacking some cohesion.
And against the likes of Nikola Moro and Remo Freuler in midfield for Bologna, therefore, Inter got overrun centrally far too often.
