Inter Milan sent a clear warning shot in the Serie A title race with their absolute demolition job on Hellas Verona.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter returned to Serie A action yesterday after having hit the pause button for a couple weeks during the international break.
And what awaited the Nerazzurri was a fierce title race.
The first few months of this season have made clear that it’s not going to be like last time out when Inter cruised to the title by a margin of nearly twenty points.
Or like the prior campaign in which Napoli had won the title in similarly dominant fashion.
This time around, Inter and Napoli are both among the teams vying for the title.
However, the likes of Atalanta and Juventus are also keeping up at the top end of the table.
And then Fiorentina and Lazio’s blazing early season form has also seen them stake their claim as title contenders.
Even AC Milan will feel that they can have their say in the title race even if some erratic early season form has given them some catching up to do.
All of Inter’s rivals will have seen what they did in Verona yesterday, though.
The Gialloblu have proven that they can be a formidable opponent even for the big teams this season.
Verona thrashed Napoli 3-0 on the opening day of the season. They also took a point against Roma.
However, Inter were simply on another level from the Gialloblu yesterday evening.
The Nerazzurri were missing a few big names. But that did not prevent them from stringing together some frenetic passing moves that ripped through the Verona high line.
And at the other end, after a couple early scares, Inter were defensively impeccable.
The 5-0 scoreline is emphatic enough. But beyond that, the performance from Inter was exactly what they’ll need to do week in week out if they want to start really amassing points.
And that is a scary sight for Inter’s title rivals.
