Inter Milan midfielder Piotr Zielinski feels that Napoli are formidable rivals for the Serie A title, but that the Nerazzurri can keep up.

The Polish international spoke in a press conference after his team’s 4-4 Serie A draw against Juventus, as reported by FCInterNews.

If there was one coach who will have been completely happy with what he saw yesterday evening in the Derby d’Italia it would be Antonio Conte.

Going into the match, Inter and Juventus were the two teams closest to Napoli in the Serie A table.

Therefore, the Partenopei coach will not have wanted to see either of the two take three points.

And in the end, neither did. They played a remarkable 4-4 draw in the first Derby d’Italia of the season.

And since Napoli won their own match this weekend, dispatching Empoli 1-0, they have extended their lead over both of their closest rivals in the table.

Napoli now sit four points clear of Inter in the table, and six clear of Juventus. That gives them  breathing room – even if it’s far too early to talk about a real advantage at this stage.

Inter Midfielder Piotr Zielinski: “Napoli Are Strong, But So Are We”

Zielinski spent eight seasons as a Napoli player. But now he finds himself looking up at his former side in the table.

Asked if Napoli are now the team to beat, the Polish international replied “Certainly.”

“But we’re also a great team,” he said.

“We’ll do everything we can to win and give the fans as much joy and great feelings as last season,” Zielinski said.

Of some of Inter’s defensive shortcomings against Juventus, Zielinski said that “We certainly could have done more on their third goal.”

“We had to commit a foul. Because Juve had a lot of the pitch to run into after that.”

“We allowed them a lot of space,” the Polish international said. “And then in the end they equalized, they have a lot of quality.”

And as for playing in holding midfield as he did against Juventus, Zielinski noted that “I’ve played there 2-3 times for the national team.”

“It’s not my position,” he admitted. “But I’ll always play wherever the coach wants me to.”

“Today we had an injury crisis. So I accepted it.”
