Arne Slot has been criticised for his efforts in Europe last year as Feyenoord manager.

Talking on the Kick-Off podcast, Valentijn Driessen has clapped back at Feyenoord fans for 'overrating' the Dutchman's efforts at the club before his Liverpool move.

The TV personality said: "The canonisation of Arne Slot, that also bothers me a bit. If you start looking at the numbers, last year in the Champions League they just lost twice to Atlético Madrid, which was Spain's number three.

"Then Lazio, which they won at home. That was a nice game that you could have played even. But losing away from Lazio and at Celtic as well.

"Then you go through to the Europa League and get eliminated by AS Roma, who you have already lost a final to once. What, a great European season under Arne Slot?"

Despite having a poor run of form in Europe, Slot ensured Feyenoord finished comfortably in second place, runners-up only to PSV who lost just one league game all season.

A new dawn for Slot at Liverpool

While last week's win against AC Milan in the Champions League got Liverpool off to a brilliant start in the tournament's new league phase, we will have to see whether his high standards continue further down the line.

But make no mistake about it, that AC Milan side was more than capable of a big win that night - having beaten rivals Inter Milan just this weekend - and after conceding early on, Liverpool did particularly well to successfully take control of the game.

Domestically, Arne Slot nearly managed to become the first manager to have four clean sheets in their opening four matches in the Premier League.

However, while Nottingham Forest ensured the Liverpool boss missed out on that milestone, Slot looks to be on course for a much better campaign than his heavily criticised last season at Feyenoord.
