Refereeing expert Graziano Cesari feels a push by Scott McTominay should’ve been a penalty in Saturday’s match between Napoli and Inter Milan.

Cesari gave his thoughts on Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, therefore, via FCInter1908.

Inter Milan appealed vehemently for a penalty in the first half of Saturday’s match against Napoli.

This came after a challenge by former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay on wingback Denzel Dumfries.

Firstly, McTominay had not gotten any contact on the ball. And on the other hand, the Scottish international did barge straight into Dumfries.

Inter’s players clearly felt that there was more than enough in the push for referee Daniele Doveri to point to the spot.

However, that is not what Doveri did. The veteran referee waved away the appeals.

Meanwhile, even on VAR review, there was no advice to Doveri to go and have another look at the incident.

Cesari: “McTominay Push A Foul” In Napoli 1-1 Inter Milan Clash

Inter did immediately go on to score. Federico Dimarco scored directly from a free kick on the edge of the box that Doveri had awarded at the end of the sequence including the McTominay push.

Therefore, that perhaps prevented the decision from becoming more of a controversial talking point.

Nevertheless, Italian refereeing expert Graziano Cesari felt that it was a clear error by Doveri.

“Does McTominay take the ball?” he posed. “No.”

“Is it a sloppy and out-of-control tackle? Yes.”

“And does he mistime it?” Cesari continues. “Absolutely, yes.”

The refereeing expert and former Serie A referee posted, “Is it late? Yes.”

“Is it a penalty?” Cesari furthermore went on dramatically. “Yes.”
