Calafiori, Jorginho and Emerson all lined up as starters in Arsenal’s entertaining 5-2 victory away against West Ham on Saturday.

The first half could not have gone much worse for the hosts, who were four goals down by the 36th minute. Aaron Wan-Bissaka clawed one back before EURO 2020 winner Emerson bent a stunning free kick in off the crossbar from a long way out to halve the deficit; His first goal in any competition since February.

Jorginho, meanwhile, played the full 90 minutes for just the second time in the Premier League this season. The West Ham victory was the former Italy international’s fifth league outing in 2024-25.

Calafiori also played as a starter, but was taken off just 10 minutes into the second half. Mikel Arteta has since explained that the Italy international requires careful management after his recent knee injury.

Sandro Tonali played for the full 90 minutes in the Premier League for the first time this season. The Italy international has, in fact, only lasted the full 90 on three occasions in the English top flight, and given his lengthy suspension last year, it was the first time he did so since October 2023.

He started at the base of Newcastle’s midfield three for their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, and received decent reviews for his quick movement of the ball and his ability to win back possession.

Tottenham held without Vicario

For the first time in the Premier League this season, there was only one Italy player in the Tottenham starting XI following the fractured ankle suffered by Guglielmo Vicario in the 4-0 win over Manchester City last weekend.

Destiny Udogie played the full 90 minutes in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with fellow Londoners Fulham, although it wasn’t his most exciting display in terms of attacking returns.
