The former Cagliari midfielder went into the match one booking away from suspension.

Therefore, there was certainly a risk to having Barella in the starting eleven. Were he to have picked up a yellow card, he would be missing next weekend’s crunch clash with Napoli.

However, Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi decided to trust Barella.

However, in the second half of the match Barella really came to the fore.

The 27-year-old was relentless in midfield. He really went toe-to-toe with a Genoa midfield that pushed the physicality.

And Barella was a hub in possession as Inter looked to force the issue in search of a winner.

Then, the Italian international smashed the crossbar with a long-range effort in the second half.
