Callum Wilson returned to the matchday squad on Monday night.
A largely thankless task coming on for the final 22 minutes with Newcastle two goals down.
Callum Wilson though looked lively and was denied a clear penalty.
Both he and the Newcastle United fans are desperate for the striker to stay fit, because as he says, keep him on the pitch and Callum Wilson is convinced he will score goals.
Callum Wilson asked about his contract situation, with currently seven months left and set to see his existing deal end on 30 June 2025:
“I am not thinking about it to be honest.
“You can only focus on the current situation.
“First and foremost was getting fit.
“From there you build on that, stay fit, score your goals and then it’s down to the club on how things progress.
“As a striker you score goals, [that] gets yourself longevity [at a club]?
“I love playing for this club.
“I joined many years ago and helped the club numerous times throughout the years, I want to be a part of it [moving forward].
“It is about getting going and getting out there.
“So long as I’m on the pitch, I have no doubt I will score goals, but it’s about staying on the pitch.
“For me now, I had a spell out, missed a fair few games, so it’s about staying fit and helping the team.
