Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has yet to settle on a starting XI, an approach that earned a critical reception from a large section of the fans and pundits.

While the likes of Bruno Fernanes and Amad Diallo have cemented themselves as regular starters, several spots in the lineup remain up for grabs. This includes the striker role, with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund contending for a starting berth in the much-illustrated absence of Marcus Rashford, while the backline and the wingback slots have been witnessing constant change in personnel.

Therefore, many have argued that this approach has been impeding the team’s progress under the new manager, urging him to pick a starting XI and stick to it.

Amorim explains why he keeps changing Man United starting XI

Nevertheless, Amorim defends his policy while insisting he’s not rotating his lineup for the sake of it, but views it as a mandatory choice to preserve the squad.

“At this moment, it’s not rotation to see the players and prepare the future, it’s simply to not have injuries,” explained the Portuguese in his Christmas Eve press conference (via the Mirror).

“I just want to win games because I know that there is a long-term project and we are focused on that. I also know that big clubs don’t have a lot of time and you have to win games, so I have a clear idea about the responsibility that I have here. But I’m trying to manage this team to not have injuries.

“If we have injuries it’s a massive problem in trying to win games and manage all the players so I’m not rotating to see the future, I just want to win games and not have injuries.”

So it remains to be seen how many changes Amorim will make ahead of Boxing Day’s clash against Wolves, but one would expect a few tweaks given how the previous encounter against Bournemouth unfolded.
