Liverpool Have Reportedly Struck an ‘Agreement’ to Complete First Summer Signing

With the summer transfer window moving closer, Liverpool’s transfer plans are already starting to accelerate in front of us.

There has been a lot of talk about potential exits, especially regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold, but Arne Slot has already chosen his replacement for the departing right-back.

Journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed that Liverpool have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong, on a deal until June 2030. The Reds will trigger the release clause in the Dutchman’s contract, which is worth around £33m according to Schira.

If the report is to be true, the 24-year-old will become the third signing under Slot but the first one of this transformative summer on Merseyside.

Although Frimpong hasn’t perhaps reached the heights from the 2023/24 season under Xabi Alonso, he has remained a key part of the Bundesliga’s squad this season. As a wing-back in Alonso’s system, he has managed four goals and 12 assists so far this season.

The season prior to that Frimpong managed a huge 14 goals and 14 assists as Bayer Leverkusen lifted the Bundesliga title.

There’s no doubting his ability going forward, with his technical ability and raw pace being hugely impressive.

However, it will be interesting to see how this signing would impact Slot’s system at Liverpool and what it would mean for Conor Bradley who had been heavily tipped to be Alexander-Arnold’s replacement.

Regardless, for a fee of around £33million, Frimpong stands out as one of those ‘opportunistic’ signings that the hierarchy at Liverpool love and he will certainly add quality and depth to an already strong squad.

I’d say this is a fairly strong start to the summer window for the Reds and it always helps to get these sort of deals wrapped up early.
