In a major development, David Ornstein of The Athletic has confirmed that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has signed his contract to take over as the Brazil head coach.

The 65-year-old Italian tactician will leave the Santiago Bernabeu once the La Liga season is over and start his new job with the Selecao on May 26.

This development comes in the backdrop of Real Madrid’s 4-3 defeat to Barcelona on Sunday which ended any hopes of mounting a late challenge for the La Liga title.

Ancelotti has been linked with a move to Brazil since 2023, after they sacked Tite following their disappointing FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign.

Having failed in their attempt to lure him away, the South American giants named Dorival Junior as the head coach, but relieved him of his duties earlier this year after a string of disappointing results.

Ancelotti, once again, became their main target, with Diego Fernandes leading the negotiations from the Brazil Football Confederation’s side.

Even though there were some minor hiccups, everything has now been sorted out and Ancelotti has signed his contract with Brazil.

The Italian tactician will leave Real Madrid after their final La Liga game against Real Sociedad on May 25 and start his job with the Canarinha a day later.

Despite things not going their way this season, Real Madrid are expected to give Ancelotti a grand farewell, reflecting his status as a club legend.

As for his replacement, Xabi Alonso is set to take over as Los Blancos new manager, with a full agreement reached with the former midfielder.
