Bayern didn’t really need to worry anymore on Sunday as they watched their only remaining rivals in the title race, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, in their encounter at SC Freiburg. Having drawn 3-3 at RB Leipzig the day before, the lead over the Werkself was already so comfortable that the championship could not realistically be taken away from the Munich men – and yet Harry Kane and Co wanted certainty.

When the final whistle blew and Bayern were mathematically confirmed as Bundesliga champions due to Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw, Kane could finally celebrate the first major honour of his career. “It feels amazing,” the English striker told fcbayern.com. “We put in a lot of hard work over the season, dedicated ourselves physically and mentally, and then there’s nothing better than celebrating when you’ve won something together. It’s a special group – the players and the staff. It’s the first trophy in my career, so it feels that extra bit sweet,” continued the 31-year-old.

The full-time whistle in the Leverkusen game was also a special moment for Konrad Laimer. “It was pretty much already clear but then when it actually happened, the feeling was still different,” said the Austrian. “It’s very special for me – my first trophy here, my first German championship. It’s a lot of fun winning and celebrating titles. I hope there are many more to come.”

And so the gathering of some players and staff to watch the match on Sunday turned into a spontaneous title party. “We watched the game together,” explained Kane. “After the final whistle, the emotions were running high and I immediately hugged Eric [Dier]. We’ve had a long journey together. It was just something special. There were a lot of emotions, a lot of feelings in that moment and still are now. I’ve been playing football for a very long time and it’s taken a while, but it’s just a great feeling and I’m proud of everyone who was involved,” added the goal-getter.

Captain Manuel Neuer emphasised in his interview: “Our consistency spoke for itself. We deserved it. This title is proof that we're a good team, that we've grown together. Every player played their part. We as a team, together with the staff, rocked it.”

The big title party will happen on Sunday 18 May. Together with FCB Women, who have won the double of the league and DFB Cup, the Bavarians will celebrate their successes with the fans on Munich’s Marienplatz. Another first for Kane and Co which they can look forward to.
