Kylian Mbappé (25) could recently have returned to formative club AS Monaco, not as a player, but as a shareholder, as revealed by L’Équipe.
Mbappé came through the ranks at the Principality club before winning the Ligue 1 title with Les Monégasques in 2017, ahead of his move to Paris Saint-Germain. The France captain dreamed of becoming a shareholder of Monaco as he looked to buy shares through his investment fund, Coalition Capital.
Current shareholder Dmitry Rybolovlev has been open to selling AS Monaco, ever since receiving an “unsolicited” approach at the start of the year. The identity of the interested parties remains unknown, whilst the Raine Group is serving as the club’s exclusive financial advisor on the matter. However, Mbappé’s dream of buying a share in the club came unstuck due to the asking price, which was ultimately too high and he instead turned his focus to Ligue 2 side SM Caen. Mbappé completed the purchase of an 80% share of Caen in July.
