There is no denying the fact that FC Barcelona have had to take extreme measures to resolve some recent problems. Notably, the club has resorted to involving the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) or the National Sports Council to aid them in their quest to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. Fortunately for Barcelona, it has ended up working for them.
Both players are now temporarily registered in La Liga again and this suits Barcelona quite nicely. Furthermore, beyond just other competitions, the two Spaniards will be able to represent Barça in the upcoming Spanish Super Cup final as well, after having recently defeated Athletic Club.
However, there are teams that do not think too kindly of this recent ruling from the CSD. In fact, following the statement from Atletico Madrid, another La Liga team has now also released a statement that looks to call into question this recent ruling and what must be done about it.
As per the official UD Las Palmas sources, the club has released a statement calling into question the decision and even how the club itself disagrees with it:
“The resolution issued yesterday by the Spanish High Council for Sports (CSD) has taken us by unpleasant surprise, and UD Las Palmas expresses its absolute disagreement. We believe this decision poses a serious threat to the integrity of the competition and sets a troubling precedent that could destabilize the foundations of professional football in our country.”
“It is particularly striking that this resolution was made with unusual haste, without allowing for a hearing or the participation of LaLiga and the RFEF, key stakeholders in the management of Spanish football. This procedure has disregarded prior decisions by both the CSD itself and the courts of justice, creating a sense of arbitrariness that is incompatible with the principles of transparency and fairness that should govern any such process.”
Similar to Atletico Madrid, Las Palmas believes that this decision disregards the already established regulations and rules that other La Liga teams have to follow. Furthermore, without directly mentioning Barcelona, the statement indirectly refers to the registrations of both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor:
“Additionally, the declaration of the Monitoring Committee’s lack of jurisdiction in this case appears to reflect a concerning lack of understanding regarding the functioning of the prior approval and final licensing system, which had previously been agreed upon by the relevant institutions.”
“At no point does the resolution reference the application of the RFEF regulations that prevented the granting of licenses, a crucial aspect of this matter. The harm caused by this resolution extends beyond the specific case of the players involved.”
“Its impact jeopardizes LaLiga’s Economic Control system, a tool recognized and praised in the Sports Law for its essential role in ensuring the financial sustainability of clubs. This system, admired internationally, has saved numerous historic institutions from ruin while maintaining a balanced competition both on and off the field. Now, the CSD’s measure directly contradicts the principles established in that law, creating uncertainty about the future of professional football in Spain.”
Ultimately, the statement ends with Las Palmas calling for a review of this recent decision as they possibly hope for it to be retracted:
“UD Las Palmas calls for a thorough review of the effects of these measures and trusts that respect for the rules that ensure the integrity of our competition will be restored. UD Las Palmas reaffirms its commitment to defending fair, sustainable, and balanced football, based on clear rules agreed upon by all clubs.”
For now, Barcelona have the benefit of the doubt as both players have been temporarily registered. However, as more time passes, it remains to be seen whether or not this decision is overturned in the future. At the moment, the priority for the Catalan giants is to focus on one game at a time.
