Lazio left-back Nuno Tavares remains the best assist-provider among defenders who ply their trade in Europe’s Top Five leagues.
The Biancocelesti signed the Portuguese from Arsenal on a loan deal with an obligation to buy for €6 million in addition to a %20 sell-on fee. In hindsight, this proved to be an absolute bargain, with the 24-year-old cementing himself as one of the finest full-backs in Serie A this season thanks to his menacing runs down the left flank.
Following a superb start to the season, Tavares’ displays waned as of late, especially after returning from an injury. Nevertheless, the former Marseille star found his groove again in Thursday’s Europa League victory over Real Sociedad, albeit his night ended prematurely after pulling a muscle.
But shortly before his exit, the Portugal international had created Taty Castellanos’ goal with a sublime cross, which was his first in Europe this season. This effort raised his tally to nine assists across all competitions, so he has now retained his spot on top of the assist charts among defenders playing in Europe’s Top 5 leagues, alongside Fulham’s Antonee Robinson.
The stats provided by Transfermarkt reveal that Bayer Leverkusen’s Alex Grimaldo completes the podium with eight assists to his name, while Inter’s Federico Dimarco, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Barcelona’s Jules Kounde and Stuttgart’s Maximilian Mittelstädt all share the fourth spot with seven.
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and Spurs’ Pedro Porro are 8th with six assists for each.
