One current Chelsea defender has offered himself up for a new role at the club that might need filling in temporarily, or even permanently.

As we know right now at Chelsea, there is a situation brewing with Reece James, who is the current club captain.

James is injured more often than not and just misses far too many games. Some Chelsea fans might feel that he probably shouldn’t be captain because he is rarely in training and rarely on the pitch. Your club captain needs to be there more often than not, and James is very injury prone and at the moment, I don’t ever see that changing.

I have personally even seen some Chelsea fans wanting to sell James, which is another debate altogether.

But Chelsea need leaders to step up in James’ absence, whether temporary or permanent, and Levi Colwill has offered himself up as a leader.

Colwill has leadership qualities

Colwill is a leader

“I think I have always had leadership qualities in me,” he said this weekend as quoted by The Daily Mirror. “Last season I did captain the side a few times. So I have always had it in me. Maybe at the start of the season I wasn’t showing it much to him.

“But I think the team all know I am definitely growing as a player and a person around the team and trying to help out as much as possible. The most obvious one is communicating.

“And, no matter the game I am having, trying to help my team-mates as much as possible, to organise them and give them the best chance of winning the ball back or attacking. I think it just comes down to that.

“There is nothing more I could ask for. The gaffer has given me that trust, for me to play my best football on the pitch, and I have got no excuses. Obviously playing with Wes, Benoit, Cucurella, Reece when he’s fit, it’s been amazing because they are all top top players.”
