Fabio Capello feels that Inter Milan are still the best team in Serie A.
The former AC Milan and Real Madrid coach spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908. He also named Hakan Calhanoglu as the Nerazzurri’s key player.
Inter drew with Bologna in Serie A on Wednesday.
This result once again introduced the doubts about the Nerazzurri’s title defense.
Inter had not dropped points in the league in over two months. That had seen them really turn up the pressure on the likes of Napoli and Atalanta in the title race.
However, both the result and performance against Bologna suggested that there are some chinks in Inter’s armour.
Former Milan coach Capello said that “Inter are still the best team in the league.”
“That assumption hasn’t changed even after a somewhat underwhelming start to 2025, between the decisive loss in the Supercoppa Italiana and the draw with Bologna.”
“The Nerazzurri are still undoubtedly the team best-equipped to go all the way,” Capello argued.
“But superiority is something you have to always demonstrate on the pitch.
Capello suggested that “Above all, we have to understand whether Inzaghi’s team wants to play the way it did before [the Supercoppa] in Riyadh.”
“With the same aggression and total control over matches.”
“Or whether it will keep this new style we’ve started to see recently. More oriented to sitting back and counterattacking.”
“That’s not how they played before,” Capello argued. “Inter had been dominating no matter what, pressing their opponents.”
“They won the ball back in the least amount of time possible,” the former Milan coach said.
“The Nerazzurri need to find that desire to win the ball back as quickly as possible again,” Capello said. “Because then, when they win possession, they’re dangerous for any opponent.”
“I’ve always said and I’ll say again that Calhanoglu is the key player,” the former coach added.
Capello called the Turkish international “the leader who gives the whole team its movement.”
