Fabio Capello believes that Inter Milan will need striker Marcus Thuram at his best against Bayern Munich next month.

The legendary former AC Milan and Real Madrid coach named the Frenchman as the Nerazzurri’s danger man in the Champions League tie in the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan know who they will face in the Champions League quarterfinals.

The Nerazzurri will take on German giants Bayern Munich.

Inter booked their place in the quarterfinals with an aggregate win over Feyenoord in the round of sixteen.

Meanwhile, Bayern overcame domestic rivals Bayer Leverkusen in their own tie.

The Bavarians will certainly be among the most formidable opposition Inter face all season.

Bayern Munich have been in imperious form domestically. And while there have been one or two stumbles in Europe, their dominant performance against Leverkusen across two legs underlined their quality.

Capello: “Inter Need Marcus Thuram At His Best Vs Bayern Munich”

In the view of former Juventus and England coach Fabio Capello, “Bayern have superior individual quality, particularly in attack.”

“But Inter play in a very well-drilled way. They have more balance than Kompany’s team.”

“The first key to the match, therefore, will be to limit Kane and Musiala as much as possible,” argued Capello.

“The English striker is intelligent. He moves constantly, and even when he doesn’t score he makes himself useful for his teammates.”

“He’s not a Number Nine in the penalty area, static like Haaland can be,” Capello continued. “He drags players out, opens up spaces, knows how to play on the egde of the area.”

“Musiala on the other hand is the one who gets the team forward. The motor of the team, with great technical ability.”

Capello noted that “Inter know how to defend well.”

“But against those two they’ll need to be at their best. Otherwise they’re in trouble.”

“Clearly in order to do so Inter will need to get back to the kind of physical condition they were in a few months ago,” Capello noted.

“Particularly because the German team play at a high tempo.”

As far as how Inter can hurt Bayern, Capello named “quick counterattacks.”

“In defense Bayern aren’t afraid to leave Kim or de Ligt [ed: de Ligt was sold to Manchester United last summer] in big spaces.”

“Inter can take advantage of that on the counter,” he said. “Particularly if they have Thuram at his best.”
