Álvaro Carreras tried his luck at Real Madrid and Manchester United before switching to Benfica in the January window of 2024. Since then, he has emerged as an impressive performer and one of the best left-backs across Europe.

Carreras is the primary choice and has featured across 33 games in the ongoing campaign so far. He has three goals and four assists in the process. He is averaging 2 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, and 1.9 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).

The Spanish left-back likes to make overlapping runs and dribble past the players. He is effective at passing and is comfortable on the ball. He also reads the threats well and makes important interceptions though he can improve on certain aspects.

A proper replacement for Andy Robertson?

Andy Robertson is already 30 and Liverpool understands the need to bring a new left-back. While they have options like Antonee Robinson from Fulham and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, the club is exploring more names in the market.

One name that has emerged in recent weeks is Álvaro Carreras, who is having an impressive run at Benfica. He has all the traits required to represent a top-tier club like Liverpool. With more experience and proper guidance, he is likely to improve further.

The 21-year-old can be a long-term investment should the Reds manage to get his signature. However, the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain have also expressed their interest in the left-back.
