Liverpool have reportedly started making moves in the transfer window with a Spanish news outlet reporting that The Reds have submitted a €50million bid for Frenchman, Aurelien Tchouameni.

This reported bid is considerably lower than the €80 valuation placed on the 24-year-old by Transfermarkt.

So far this season the Real Madrid star has made 21 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish giants, with 11 of those as a CDM, three as a CM and seven as a CB.

According to SPORTBible, this offer came straight after Liverpool’s lacklustre 2-2 draw against Man United on Sunday, with many players leaving a lot to be desired.

The addition of Tchouameni raises questions about where he might fit in, the move definitely made sense back in 2022 with the eventual decline of Fabinho in the squad and Klopp needing to inject youth into that ageing midfield, but with the powerful French midfielder leaving Monaco in favour of Real Madrid that summer, it’s only under Slot that The Reds have truly found their engine once again.

Perhaps a worthy opponent for the starting spot might be the driving force of this move, with Gravenberch starting every single Premier League and Champions League game so far this season, with Wataru Endo deemed a suitable option to rest the Dutchman in the Carabao Cup so far.

Tchouameni differed stylistically from Gravenberch, making him more similar to Fabinho in his prime due to his intelligence in reading the game and crucial tackles, compared to a more smooth and stylish approach.

Whilst they occupy similar roles, it doesn’t mean to say that they both couldn’t fit in the same side due to their differences.

With Tchouameni turning 25 later this month he would make an excellent signing for The Reds, however, having already declined an offer of a move to Merseyside and with interest also from Manchester City, the man who has ‘has everything you need’ according to Rio Ferdinand might find temptation further up the M62, especially with the absence of the Ballon d’Or winning Rodri.

This reported bid certainly signifies Slot’s recognition that more signings will be vital for the second half of the season’s bid to win the Premier League. But, with Real unlikely to sell, the low fee and interest from elsewhere, we can probably lower any expectation of seeing Tchouameni in a Liverpool shirt this season at least.
