Liverpool Transfer News: Frankfurt announce MAJOR Omar Marmoush update | OneFootball

The reports that Liverpool are actively pursuing Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush is one of the most exciting developments on the transfer front this year.

The Egyptian has 24 goal involvements in all competitions so far this season and is giving his compatriot Mo Salah a run for the moniker of the world’s best player so far this season.

The idea of bringing the two men together at Anfield is enough to excite any Red, particularly with Liverpool’s injury woes and struggles at the centre forward position.

But, according to Frankfurt’s sporting director, Timmo Hardung, a deal is not being done.

“We have no contact with Liverpool regarding Marmoush, no negotiations or communications.” reports Ismael Mahmoud on Twitter, “I know some people there, but there’s nothing at all. There are no discussions with any club about Omar.”

That’s not what Liverpool fans want to hear.

It is, however, a confusing claim due to the severity of reports on Liverpool’s interest in Marmoush that have emerged.

Swiss journalist Marcel Reif recently told BILD that “It’s no secret that [Marmoush] will probably move to Liverpool next summer. I would put a few euros on it.”

And BILD themselves are reporting that Marmoush wants a move to Liverpool. The idea of playing, and eventually succeeding, his idol and countryman Salah is appealing, according to reports. We can see why.

Will Liverpool sign Marmoush?

As a result, Hardung’s claims are perplexing. The most likely explanation is that Hardung means there are no official ongoing negotiations, as opposed to Liverpool not actually being interested.

If the sporting director of the club were to come out in November and say ‘yes, we will be selling our star player soon’ then he would rightfully face backlash from a lot of fans.

He has to deny these claims whether he knows Marmoush will be moving or not.

With everything else indicating that Liverpool will end up actively pursuing Marmoush, we wouldn’t worry too much about these claims. The January transfer window is opening soon and Liverpool are flying in all competitions.

To paraphrase, a week is a long time in football. Things can change in an instant.

And Marmoush and Salah are a match made in heaven.
