Liverpool fans are buzzing with excitement ahead of the clash against Manchester City at Anfield, and Arne Slot’s recent press conference offered much insight into the team’s mindset, injuries, and their readiness to take on their fiercest rivals. Dave Davis from Anfield Index broke down Slot’s key points in detail, providing fans with a mix of optimism and caution.
Slot addressed injuries, particularly those of Ibrahima Konaté and Conor Bradley. “They’re still being assessed,” he said, but acknowledged the signs weren’t great after both players were subbed off during the last match. However, he confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is fit and available, much to the relief of fans. “Great news that Trent’s available,” he added, emphasising the importance of having a fully equipped defence against a formidable City attack.
The Liverpool manager also highlighted the depth of his squad, praising the contributions of players like Darwin Núñez and Kostas Tsimikas. “Jota out, Núñez comes in and does really well,” he noted, emphasising the seamless integration of squad players during key moments this season.
Slot didn’t downplay the challenge of facing Manchester City, calling them “still a top team.” He acknowledged their recent struggles, especially in defence, but cautioned against complacency. “This is the chance to go 11 points clear,” Slot emphasised, noting the pivotal nature of the fixture.
On City’s form, he reflected, “If I think anyone in the last eight or nine years playing City home or away would say the word ‘easy,’ it wouldn’t come to mind.” He highlighted City’s struggles against Brighton and Tottenham but credited Pep Guardiola’s ability to find solutions: “Pep is one of the best managers in the world…he will come up with something.”

Slot’s tactical nous was evident as he discussed the importance of maintaining focus and discipline. On the team’s defensive structure, he remarked, “We are keeping clean sheets as in Europe, against the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid.” He also called for a relentless approach against City, urging his players to “press, harry, and show that they [City] are absolutely struggling.”
Slot also hinted at the importance of squad rotation, mentioning standout performances from players like Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones. “Mac Allister was brilliant the other night,” he said, noting how the midfielder’s energy will be crucial against City’s midfield.
Reflecting on Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid earlier in the week, Slot described it as a “perfect routine” and praised his players for their stellar performances. “Curtis Jones was sensational, a European elite midfielder,” he said, adding that young talents like Conor Bradley “stepped up brilliantly.”

This victory has bolstered Liverpool’s confidence, with Slot stating, “We dominated them in the second half…this has set us up well for Sunday.”
As fans eagerly await the match, Slot provided a glimpse of his potential lineup. While the inclusion of Konaté remains uncertain, the core squad appears ready to deliver. With Núñez leading the line and Luis Díaz’s excellent record against City, Slot has no shortage of attacking options. “Luis Díaz has a great record against Manchester City…he could be pivotal,” Slot suggested.
The atmosphere at Anfield is expected to play a crucial role, with Slot calling on fans to create an electric environment. “Under the lights, it’ll be cold, but we’ll be ready,” he said, urging fans and players alike to rise to the occasion.
This fixture represents more than just three points—it’s an opportunity to make a statement. As Slot concluded, “Put the foot on the neck and really make an 11-point gap.”
