Federico Chiesa is one of two senior Liverpool players who do not qualify to receive a Premier League winners’ medal...yet.
The Reds clinched English football’s top prize - for a 20th time in their history - on Sunday thanks to a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham.
However, whilst Liverpool players, staff and supporters celebrated wildly inside Anfield, there was no trophy presentation following the full-time whistle.
This is because it is tradition in England for teams who have been confirmed as champions before the end of the season to be presented with the Premier League Trophy at their final home match.
On Sunday May 25, 2025, Liverpool host Crystal Palace in their final game of the campaign, meaning that is when captain Virgil van Dijk will get his hands on the trophy.
Furthermore, members of the first-team squad will receive a Premier League winners’ medal.
Though to qualify for one, rule C.13 in the Premier League Handbook states the champions receive 40 commemorative medals. These are “to be presented by the Club to its Manager and to such of its Players and Officials as it thinks fit provided that any Player who has entered the field of play in a minimum of five of its League Matches that Season”.
As per the Premier League website, at present, 21 Liverpool players have played five or more times for the club in the Premier League so will automatically be presented with a medal.
Chiesa has only made four Premier League appearances since arriving from Juventus last summer, so he is currently in danger of missing out on a winners’ medal.
That said, with games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton and Palace on the horizon, the Italian should make at least one appearance - whether that be as a starter or substitute - to qualify for a winners’ medal.
The other senior player, still currently at the club, who has made less than five Premier League appearances this season is third-choice goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros.
Jaros made his Liverpool debut in the 1-0 win over Palace back in October, replacing the injured Alisson Becker in the second half. To qualify for a winners’ medal he must feature in the remaining four fixtures.
