Liverpool have been in top form this season, but after a weekend off, they’ll head into their Champions League first-leg matchup against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes either well-rested or slightly rusty.

Before turning their attention to Europe, Liverpool picked up a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at Anfield on Wednesday, keeping their momentum rolling into Paris.

PSG, meanwhile, looked dominant over the weekend, cruising to a 4-1 win over LOSC Lille with all four goals coming in the first half. The Ligue 1 leaders are brimming with confidence, but manager Luis Enrique knows that they’ll need every ounce of that to leave Paris with an advantage heading into the second leg.

Ahead of the clash on Wednesday, Enrique gave a flattering compliment to the Premier League side, who have been a well-oiled machine this season.

“Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe in recent years,” Enrique said (h/t PSG.fr). “We’re going to face the team that has played the best so far in the Champions League this season. They won the Champions League recently.

“After the Jürgen Klopp era, it could have been difficult for Arne Slot to do better, but he has managed to create a perfect team that knows how to press, defend and attack.

“They know how to build a calculated attack as well as counter-attacks. They’re a very complete team, but that motivates us. It’s an opportunity for all of us to show that we’re capable of rising to this level.”

Arne Slot and his team head into this match unbeaten in their last five, with three wins and two draws. On the other hand, Luis Enrique and his squad are on a 10-match winning streak and haven’t lost in 22 games across all competitions.
