As Liverpool prepare for their highly-anticipated clash against Manchester United at Anfield, Alexis Mac Allister has delivered a measured message about the team’s mindset. While the Reds sit comfortably at the top of the Premier League table, the Argentine midfielder has emphasised that there’s no room for complacency as they enter the second half of the season.
Liverpool’s start to the campaign has been nothing short of impressive. Under new manager Arne Slot, the Reds have secured 23 victories from 27 matches across all competitions. Their most recent triumph, a 5-0 demolition of West Ham United, further solidified their position at the summit of English football.
Despite their dominant form, Mac Allister insists Liverpool must remain grounded. “We’ve been in a really good moment and the feeling in the squad has been super-positive,” he said. “But as we always say, at a club like this there’s no time to rest or get carried away with what’s happened – you just have to try to win and think about the next game.”
That next game is a pivotal one. Manchester United may be struggling under Ruben Amorim, but a fierce rivalry like this always brings an extra edge.
Since taking over from Jurgen Klopp, Arne Slot has instilled a fresh tactical identity at Liverpool. Mac Allister, who has thrived under the new system, spoke highly of the Dutchman’s influence.
“It’s been a good feeling from day one,” Mac Allister explained. “From the very start we saw a little bit of the way he wanted us to play and as a group I think we really embraced it. We’re all comfortable with the way he wants us to play, with the tactical ideas that he’s brought with him.”

Slot’s success in reshaping Liverpool’s playing style is no small feat, especially considering he succeeded a club legend in Klopp. Mac Allister acknowledged the challenge: “It’s not easy for a new coach to come in, especially after a legend like Jurgen Klopp who was here for so many years and won so many things. I’m happy for Arne and for the whole group because the truth is that we work very hard and we’re doing so in a great way. So hopefully we can crown it by winning him a trophy or two.”
This season, Mac Allister has taken on a slightly different role, operating as part of a double pivot in Liverpool’s midfield. His versatility and tactical awareness have made him a key figure in Slot’s system.
With a goal and two assists in his last three outings, Mac Allister’s influence on the pitch is growing. Reflecting on his recent performances, he said: “I like to score goals, I like to assist, I want to put even more into that, into improving my numbers, and I think I can do that. So I’m happy for what I’m achieving but at the same time I always want a little bit more.”
His contributions have been crucial, especially in games where Liverpool have needed moments of creativity and composure. His involvement in the build-up to goals against West Ham showcased his vision and technical ability.
As Liverpool prepare to welcome Manchester United, the focus remains on maintaining their momentum. Slot’s side are six points clear of Arsenal with a game in hand, but Mac Allister’s comments underline the squad’s refusal to take anything for granted.
The Argentine’s message is clear: success at a club like Liverpool is built on consistency and hard work. With a crucial fixture on the horizon, that mentality could be key to deepening United’s woes and further cementing Liverpool’s position at the top of the Premier League table.
