Man City dealt heavy injury blow ahead of Real Madrid 2nd leg | OneFootball

Premier League champions Manchester City have this week been dealt a heavy blow on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that defensive stalwart Manuel Akanji is set for an incoming spell on the sidelines.

Stopper Akanji was for his part forced into a premature departure from the midweek Champions League playoff showdown between Manchester City and Real Madrid.

This came after the Swiss international pulled up with a muscular problem.

Akanji’s participation in next week’s return leg against Real Madrid was in turn thrown firmly up in the air, a major concern for a City outfit trailing by three goals to two on aggregate.

And as alluded to above, on Friday, the 29-year-old’s impending absence has been confirmed.

Speaking in a press conference earlier today, Pep Guardiola confirmed that Akanji will go under the knife on Saturday, ahead of a spell of eight to ten weeks on the sidelines.
