Manchester City are aiming to take a gargantuan step towards the knockout rounds of the Champions League on Wednesday evening when they visit Paris Saint-Germain.

Having failed to win any of their past three Champions League outings, the 2022/23 winners find themselves in the bottom half of the league phase table. Claiming just eight points from six European ventures, City are yet to confirm their place in the knockout phase of the competition, but victory in the French capital would see them at least strengthen their position in the standings.

Triumphing against PSG will be no cakewalk for Pep Guardiola's side, even if four wins from their last five in all competitions has raised spirits heading to Parc des Princes. The Ligue 1 leaders have won their last eight matches and are fighting tooth and nail for their won Champions League knockout play-off berth having underwhelmed on the continent themselves.

Here is how Man City could line up for a crucial encounter.

GK: Ederson - Injuries and questionable form have seen Ederson's starting spot under threat from Stefan Ortega over the past month. However, the Brazilian started against Ipswich Town at the weekend and could earn another nod on Wednesday.

RB: Rico Lewis - With Kyle Walker expected to trade Manchester for Milan this month, Lewis is the club's only recognised right-back option. He could return to the XI after three games without a start, although he faces competition for his place from midfielder Matheus Nunes.

CB: Manuel Akanji - With Nathan Ake and John Stones missing through injury, Akanji's place in the lineup is unchallenged for the time being, but City's new defensive signings should provide him with some much-needed rest across the coming months.

CB: Ruben Dias - The Portuguese is pivotal to City's misfiring defence finding their feet once more and he made a long-awaited return from injury in the 6-0 win over Ipswich at the weekend.

LB: Josko Gvardiol - The harsh spotlight has been shone directly on Gvardiol for much of the season following an error-strewn spell, but the Croatian continues to be favoured at left-back by Guardiola with few other options in the role.

CM: Bernardo Silva - Silva enjoyed the afternoon off against Ipswich, with Guardiola perhaps keeping one eye firmly on the trip to Paris. The Portuguese has so often produced clutch goals for City in the Champions League and will want to provide another on Wednesday.

CM: Mateo Kovacic - A rasping low drive capped a mightily impressive display against the Tractor Boys in which Kovacic also produced an excellent assist for James McAtee. He remains City's best Rodri imitator.

CM: Kevin De Bruyne - Having been surprisingly subdued since his injury return, De Bruyne showed flashes of his genius against Ipswich. He managed two assists and took up some tantalising positions in the Ipswich box.

RW: Phil Foden - Foden's slow start to the season appears to be well and truly over. He has produced braces in back-to-back Premier League matches and is performing closer to his irresistible best.

ST: Erling Haaland - The show didn't centre around Haaland at the weekend but he still got in on the act with a typically composed finish from close range. He has history with PSG during his Borussia Dortmund days.

LW: Savinho - Jeremy Doku starred in the win at Portman Road but Savinho has been similarly devastating in recent weeks and could return to the XI. City are returning to their blistering best in the final third and the Brazilian has been key in that renaissance.
