Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen amidst the ongoing struggles of their current crop of goalkeepers.
The Red Devils have been poor across all departments this season, which explains why the club despairingly lies 14th in the Premier League table. That being said, their goalkeepers have been particularly woeful at times.
For instance, Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both conceded goals from direct corner kicks in the space of seven days, something you don’t see every day.
So while the management will be looking to ring the changes next summer to provide Ruben Amorim with a squad more suitable to implement his tactical ideas, their bucket list could also include a new custodian.
According to The Daily Star, United have identified Verbruggen as the right profile to pursue in the summer. The Dutchman has been plying his trade at Brighton since 2023 after making a name for himself at Anderlecht.

The 22-year-old cost the Seagulls circa £16 million at the time of his transfer, but his exit would likely command a figure close to £30 million after establishing himself as a regular starter in the Premier League. This season, he made 17 appearances in all competitions, conceding 25 goals in the process and registering four clean sheets. His contract with the club is valid until the summer of 2028.
Verbruggen has also carved himself a regular spot with the Netherlands since making his senior debut in October 2023. He has already garnered 18 international caps.
While the source considers him the favorite target for Man United, the club was also linked to Belgium U21 goalkeeper Senne Lammens earlier this week, suggesting that the casting remains in its early stages, and several profiles are likely to emerge between now and the end of the season.
