Manchester United are charting their course through a rocky season, buoyed by the prospects of the FA Cup. As they set their sights on a fifth-round clash with Fulham at Old Trafford, injuries continue to throw a spanner in the works for Ruben Amorim. The challenges pile up, exacerbated by Patrick Dorgu’s recent suspension, leaving the squad stretched thin.
Amad Diallo, the promising young winger, faces a daunting road to recovery following a training injury that will see him sidelined for the rest of the season. Describing the unfortunate incident, Amorim recounted, “Amad was alone. He was doing a tackle. The feet were sticking in the grass and some players felt during training sickness so it is everything.”

This substantial blow comes at a critical juncture, with Diallo himself expressing his frustration and resolve on social media: “Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season. Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury. I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for.” Fans will have to wait until August 2025 for his potential return to the pitch.
Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo also finds himself on the injury list after a mishap in training prior to United’s defeat to Tottenham. With weeks of recovery ahead, Mainoo has missed subsequent matches, including a draw at Everton and a win over Ipswich. Although he’ll miss out on Thomas Tuchel’s first senior squad selection, hopes are high for his return in April 2025, adding a much-needed boost to the midfield.

The injury saga extends beyond Diallo and Mainoo. Luke Shaw’s season woes are compounded by yet another setback, with no clear return date in sight, leaving United short on defensive options. Lisandro Martinez and Toby Collyer are also among the sidelined, with Martinez out until late 2025 and Collyer possibly returning a bit sooner, in March 2025.
Despite these setbacks, the spirit within the Manchester United camp remains unbroken. Amorim’s leadership is crucial as he navigates this challenging period, with the FA Cup presenting a vital opportunity to salvage pride and success from a trying season. The team’s resilience will be tested as they look to integrate returning players and adjust strategies around those still recovering.
As the season progresses, the focus will be on how Manchester United can overcome these adversities. With the likes of Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo eager to return and contribute, the storyline could yet have a positive twist, essential for their ambitions on and off the domestic fronts.
