Tottenham took the lead through Dominic Solanke, capitalising on a basic goalkeeping error from Altay Bayindir.

The hosts came out for the second half with renewed energy, scoring twice in quick succession to make it 3-0.

Just when United seemed down and out, two blunders from Fraser Forster allowed the visitors to pull it back to 3-2.

However, United’s goalkeeper made another schoolboy error, leading to Spurs’ fourth goal.

A late strike from Jonny Evans wasn’t enough, as Amorim’s men were knocked out of the tournament.

Player Ratings

Altay Bayindir – 1/10

Amorim placed his trust in Bayindir between the sticks but he put on a terrible show.

Spurs’ first goal resulted from his inability to cut out the danger properly.

Just as United were beginning to make inroads, he gifted Spurs a goal by conceding directly from a corner.

Noussair Mazraoui – 5/10

He had a brilliant chance to put United level but failed to hit the target.

Leny Yoro – 7/10

Yoro demonstrated great character in a high-pressure game.

He remained composed throughout and made several key defensive interventions.

Victor Lindelof – 5/10

The Sweden international can’t catch a break, similar to Mason Mount.

He was visibly upset after getting injured right before the half-time.

Lisandro Martinez – 2/10

A sloppy clearance from the Argentine gifted Spurs a chance to double their lead.

He never managed to recover from that mistake.

His poor defending against Solanke also allowed the striker to net an easy goal, further adding to his woes.

Diogo Dalot – 5/10

The full-back saw a lot of ball but failed to create anything.

Manuel Ugarte – 7/10

A solid outing for Ugarte, who is beginning to look like the CDM United have been lacking for several years.

Christian Eriksen – 7/10

Eriksen showcased his impressive passing range with a brilliant switch of play to Dalot early in the match.

He also had two well-struck shots from the edge of the box in the first half but Spurs blocked both efforts.

Antony – 3/10

The Brazilian lost the ball in the first minute, allowing Spurs their first chance in the game.

He was too weak in duels and was rightly hooked off before the hour mark.

Bruno Fernandes – 6/10

Fernandes played a key role to set up Zirkzee.

He delivered a few good crosses in the first half but Hojlund was unable to make the connection.

Rasmus Hojlund – 4/10

Hojlund failed to make any impact against a makeshift Tottenham defence.

Substitutions

Jonny Evans – 6/10

The veteran defender had no idea when Solanke made the run behind him to score his second goal.

A good header to score United’s third goal.

Amad Diallo – 7/10

Diallo showed excellent commitment to press Forster when the latter took too long to pass the ball.

The ball ricocheted the forward and ended up in the net.

Joshua Zirkzee – 7/10

Zirkzee made the difference from the bench.

His first shot was saved by Forster but tapped it home with his second shot.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6/10

Mainoo added more dynamism to the midfield.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5/10

He failed to make any impact.
