The January transfer window marks Ruben Amorim’s first chance to mold Manchester United into the team he envisions. However, it’s expected that the significant moves will come next summer, with reports suggesting Amorim has his eye on a key Paris Saint-Germain player.
United’s summer acquisition of Manuel Ugarte from PSG has been a success, with the midfielder thriving under Amorim’s leadership. New speculation indicates that the Portuguese manager is keen to reunite with Nuno Mendes, a player he previously coached at Sporting Lisbon.
According to CaughtOffside, United is still very much interested in the 22-year-old left-back, who is said to be open to the move following talks with his representatives. If Mendes doesn’t renew his contract with PSG, the French club may be willing to entertain offers of around €70 million in the summer transfer window.

Mail Sport reports that Mendes has turned down a new contract at PSG and is keen on joining Manchester United. However, under PSR restrictions, the Red Devils are unlikely to meet the French club’s asking price this window.
TBR Football reported this week that Mendes has told PSG he wants to play under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. The Portuguese wing-back has paused contract talks with the Ligue 1 club, who are keen to lock him down to a long-term deal.
PSG’s sporting advisor, Luis Campos, is pushing for Mendes to stay, but the player is weighing his options, with Manchester United now a potential destination.
The Red Devils have shown interest in Mendes, and their strong ties with PSG—strengthened by last summer’s transfer of Ugarte—could help facilitate talks. Although PSG are reluctant to sell, they may have to consider it if Mendes refuses to extend his contract, which only has 18 months left.
