Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign one of their long-term targets this winter, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola (page 7).

The Red Devils have not made any signings during the ongoing transfer window, but that could change soon.

A Bola today claim that Goncalo Inacio’s agent was in England earlier this week to speak with United.

Inacio has a release clause worth £50.4 million in his contract, but Sporting CP are prepared to consider his departure for a package of around £33.5m.

It is added that United can sign their long-term target on loan, provided they agree an obligation to buy him for the same fee (£33.5m) in the summer.

United could grab opportunity to land Inacio

The 23-year-old has been on United’s radar for the past few years. He was heavily linked with a transfer in 2022 when the club were looking for a left-footed centre-back.

The hierarchy preferred to sign Lisandro Martinez after manager Erik ten Hag’s recommendation, but United could return for Inacio during the ongoing transfer window.

Martinez has been an undisputed starter on the left side of the back three, but manager Ruben Amorim could prefer another specialist left-footed defender for competition.

Amorim has already identified Inacio as a priority, and we won’t be surprised if United explore a loan deal. They could propose an optional buy clause instead of a mandatory one.

The club could assess Inacio’s displays in the Premier League before considering a permanent swoop.

Inacio is a strong ball-playing defender. He has a good aerial presence and likes to clear his lines.

He can play anywhere in the back three and could be used by Amorim as a left wing-back too, considering he is comfortable pushing up into the opposition half.

It appears a no-brainer decision to secure his services as he is familiar with the 3-4-2-1 system under Amorim after spending four years together at Sporting CP.
