Man Utd presented with ‘golden opportunity’ to replace ‘unpopular’ flop with UCL star

Manchester United stand a good chance at landing Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier according to reports in the British press.
The 23-year-old has been a rising star at the Stade Pierre Mauroy. He is a youth product of the club who has now cemented himself as one of the finest shot-stoppers in the country as evidenced by his latest call-up for the French national team ahead of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals.
According to Give Me Sport, Man Utd have a ‘golden opportunity’ to sign the Frenchman, potentially on a cut price, with Chevalier entering the last two years of his contract.
Even though Lille have taken a defiant stance, keeping the young custodian might be a difficult task, as he’s only earning £20,000 per week this season, a figure that undoubtedly pales in comparison to what the Red Devils would be willing to offer him.

At this stage, the best the Ligue 1 side could hope for is to spark a bidding war that would drive the price up. The source believes Lille are hoping to collect at least £34 million from the goalkeeper’s sale.
In addition to Man Utd, the report mentions the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Chelsea. Nevertheless, the Red Devils could be the most determined, given their woes between the posts this season.
After all, Andre Onana’s blunders have been well-illustrated at this stage, and the report believes internal talks are ongoing at Carrington as they look to decide the fate of the Cameroonian goalkeeper who has been recently been described as an unpopular figure amongst his teammates.
Hence, it remains to be seen if Chevalier would be one to replace the former Inter Milan if United manage to rid themselves of Onana.
