The January transfer window marks Ruben Amorim’s first opportunity to shape Manchester United in line with his vision. While the bigger changes are expected to come next summer, reports suggest that Amorim already has his eye on a key player from Paris Saint-Germain.

Manuel Ugarte, one of PSG’s summer arrivals, has thrived under Amorim’s guidance in the past, highlighting their strong connection.

Now, speculation points to Amorim’s interest in reuniting with Nuno Mendes, whom he previously coached at Sporting Lisbon and bringing the talented full-back to Old Trafford.

However, Manchester United’s pursuit of Mendes appears to have hit a dead end. According to L’Équipe, Mendes has reconsidered his future and is now leaning toward staying at PSG.

His representatives have even hinted at the possibility of a contract extension, with Luis Enrique playing a pivotal role in persuading Mendes to remain in Paris. This shift has reportedly led Manchester United to drop their interest in the player.

CaughtOffside reported on Monday, citing sources, that Manchester United have made Wolves left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri their top transfer target in that position, with Mendes no longer appearing to be an option.

The report adds that United are prioritizing Aït-Nouri, with Wolves potentially open to a deal valued between €55 million and €60 million for the Algeria international.

Manchester United might try to lower the asking price by including Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia in the deal, but it’s unclear if Wolves would be open to that.

This information backs the reporting from The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, who revealed that the 23-year-old Algeria international has caught the attention of the Old Trafford club, having impressed this season with Wolves.
