Manchester United and Napoli are poised to continue negotiations over the transfer of Chelsea target Alejandro Garnacho, reports say.

The 20-year-old will be allowed to leave Old Trafford if United receive an offer that comes close to their £50m (€60m) valuation, though they are not actively looking to part ways with the talented Argentine.

Garnacho's suitability to Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system has been questioned in recent weeks, though he has started four of United's last five games and the Portuguese coach has publicly praised the winger for "improving in every part of the game".

Amorim has conceded, though, that he's unsure whether Garnacho will still be a United player by the time the January transfer window closes. Napoli are looking to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after he joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain, and Garnacho is one of their primary targets.

Sky Sports report that talks are set to resume between United and Napoli over a potential deal, with the latter's move for Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi seemingly hitting the rocks as the German does not want to consider a mid-season transfer.

Napoli's interest in Garnacho is said to be 'more concrete' as a result, suggesting the two clubs may now look to work together in order to compromise on a fee.

From United's perspective, they are looking to sell players that will help them best comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules. They are also looking to fund a squad rebuild for Amorim, whose tactics and ways of working require a significant overhaul in personnel.

United chiefs are set to back Amorim in the transfer market but only if they're able to conclude deals that make sense financially - huge amounts of money have been spent on the likes of Antony, Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro and Mason Mount in recent years, with very little returned in the way of on-field progress.

Chelsea are also maintaining their interest in Garnacho and are believed to be watching the situation closely before deciding whether to make a bid of their own. Recently, the player's representatives were spotted at Stamford Bridge, stoking the rumour mill fire even further.

An elaborate swap deal involving Christopher Nkunku has also been mooted, but the Frenchman also remains a target for Bayern Munich and Chelsea could look away from Garnacho to instead tie up a deal for impressive 19-year-old Mathys Tel.
