Manchester United fans have suffered their fair share of reality checks this season. The Red Devils were targeting a fourth consecutive win in all competitions on Sunday, but saw a recent upturn emphatically ended at Old Trafford.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice as Crystal Palace earned a 2-0 win in Manchester, the latest in an increasingly long line of defeats for the hosts. United have now lost 11 times in the Premier League this season with seven of those coming on home soil.

It’s the first time in 130 years that the Red Devils have lost seven of their first 13 home matches of a league season.

Ruben Amorim’s arrival as head coach has failed to galvanise the side as hoped. The club’s defeat to Crystal Palace was already their fifth home league defeat under the Portuguese coach.

Incredibly, Amorim has now overseen more Premier League defeats on home soil in just seven games than ex-Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho did in his two-and-a-half year reign.

Another former boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was only beaten six times in his 55 home games.

Amorim has been sorely missing home comforts since his move to Manchester.
