Manchester United have reportedly ‘already agreed’ a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer window.

Gyokeres has been heavily linked with Manchester United since former Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim left the Portuguese champions for Old Trafford in November.

The Swedish striker has starred since arriving at Sporting, where he has scored 77 goals in 84 games across all competitions. Last season he won the Primeira Liga Player of the Year and top-scorer awards as Sporting won the title under Amorim’s management.

With Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund struggling for form this season, Amorim has made the signing of a centre-forward his focus for the summer. A reunion with Gyokeres is top of his wish list and Spanish outlet Fichajes are reporting a deal has already been struck.

According to the report, United have agreed to pay a fee of €70m (£58.4m) for Gyokeres after Sporting lowered their asking price for the 26-year-old.

Gyokeres has a release clause of €100m (£83.3m) in his contract at the Estádio José Alvalade. Coventry City will be entitled to a portion of any fee due to a sell-on clause inserted in the player’s sale to Sporting.

Amorim made his first signing during the January transfer window with the arrival of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. The wing-back is considered the first piece of the club’s rebuild under the 40-year-old, which is expected to accelerate in the summer.

However, funds could be limited with the Red Devils at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification for the second successive season. United are 13th in the Premier League table, though winning the Europa League offers an alternative route into next season’s competition.
