Manchester United attempted to pull off an ambitious move for Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati in 2020, as per reports.
The arrival of Hansi Flick in Barcelona has seemingly improved the Catalan giants’ fortunes, with the club managing to win all seven of their opening La Liga games this season.
The German manager has done a brilliant job of trusting La Masia, the club’s famed academy, and giving their youngsters a suitable environment to show their talents. Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, and Marc Bernal have all enjoyed a strong start to the new campaign.
Now, all eyes are on Fati, who has only recently regained full fitness to return back to Barca’s squad after spending a season away on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion.
The club’s number 10 has had a rough couple of seasons due to injury issues, which ultimately pushed him away from the first team and led to a move to the Premier League, which proved to be underwhelming.
However, before a serious knee injury hampered his development, Fati, who was once viewed as Lionel Messi’s potential successor, captured attention from all across Europe, including United.
According to The Athletic, the Red Devils even tested Barcelona’s resolve by offering them €100 million for their jewel in the summer of 2020.
Needless to say, the negotiations did not progress any further, and Fati stayed at Camp Nou.
Interestingly, the same year, United agreed a deal that could rise to £37m with Atalanta for their sensational winger, Amad Diallo.
The Ivorian had a tough start in Manchester and even had to go on two different loan spells before Erik ten Hag included him in his first-team plans late last campaign.
Diallo has started this term on a promising note, making the right-wing position his own ahead of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony.
United, meanwhile, seemingly continue to monitor talents in Barcelona to strengthen their ranks. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Mancunians showed interest in signing Spanish midfielder Bernal.
