Manchester United make the trip to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals this evening.
Ruben Amorim will want his team to build on the momentum of a dramatic derby win at Manchester City at the weekend. Trailing in the 88th minute, two late goals saw the Red Devils snatch the points at the Etihad.
The win made it back-to-back away successes in all competitions and United are on the road again this evening. A place in the semi-finals is at stake, where Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United await.
Spurs also head into the clash in confident mood. A 5-0 win at Southampton saw Spurs score five times before half-time at the weekend, to end a five-game winless run. This competition offers a realistic avenue to silverware success – something Ange Postecoglou has predicted in his second season in North London. Spurs have not won a major trophy since lifting the League Cup in 2008.
The headline news regarding Manchester United this week has centred around Marcus Rashford.
Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were dropped from the squad to face Manchester City at the weekend. After his omission from the matchday squad for the Manchester derby, Rashford suggested he is ready to leave Manchester United, talking up the prospect of a ‘new challenge’ and describing his departure as a case of ‘when’.
Amorim has insisted the door is not closed for the 27-year-old but this week’s events indicate an exit could be imminent. On Garnacho, Amorim said he has been pleased with the player’s reaction.
Elsewhere, Noussair Mazraoui is a doubt for the clash so Tyrell Malacia could be recalled. Mason Mount is out after his early substitution at the weekend.
Manchester United predicted XI: Onana; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia; Casemiro, Mainoo; Amad, Fernandes, Hojlund.
