Manchester United are planning to strengthen their midfield in the summer and have their eyes on Barcelona star Fermin Lopez.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, the Red Devils were planning on submitting an opening offer of €30 million for the Spaniard.

Spanish reports have now claimed that the Catalan giants have rejected the bid and are holding out for a minimum offer of €50 million for the 21-year-old.

“The future of Fermín López has become a focus of attention at FC Barcelona. The Andalusian midfielder, one of the season’s revelations, has sparked the interest of several top-flight clubs.

Lopez bid rejected

“Manchester United were the first to make a move , submitting a €30 million offer for the player. However, the Blaugrana leadership’s response has been emphatic: no talks for less than €50 million are contemplated.

“Although Manchester United’s initial offer was rejected outright, United hasn’t ruled out returning with a new proposal.

“Barça’s offices know that this summer could bring significant moves, and Fermín López’s name will be on the table at more than one meeting.”

The Spain U21 international has been identified as the perfect fit for Amorim given his ability to play as a central midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder.

Another offer coming?

He has five goals and nine assists from only 16 starts across all competitions and Hansi Flick and Deco do not want to lose the La Masia graduate.

But given the club’s financial woes, a high enough offer would be difficult to reject even though Lopez himself is desperate to stay at the Camp Nou to prove himself.

Whether United return with a bigger offer for the Spanish ace remains to be seen. The Red Devils have other options in mind as well with Adam Wharton and Bruno Guimaraes just a couple of names on their radar.

However, a lot will depend on the Old Trafford side’s eventual transfer budget which will be dictated by their Europa League campaign. INEOS are likely to focus on strengthening the attack first and foremost.
